Although Adrian Peterson's team lost in his return to where the Vikings played, he accomplished an all-new milestone for himself. He moved up to sixth all-time on the league's rushing list with his 76-yard performance last night. He currently boasts 13,701 rushing yards through his career as he passes both Jerome Bettis and LaDanian Tomlinson with his effort.

It was something that the crowd in Minnesota appreciated seeing from their former franchise running back and gave him all of the praise that he deserved. From a standing ovation to chanting “AP,” it was enough to bring the former MVP back to be emotional when it all happened.

“I had to hold tears back, to be honest. It was special, a special moment,” Peterson said per John Keim of ESPN.

Peterson spent 10 successful seasons with the Vikings, and became their franchise leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns by the end of his tenure with the team. He showed his appreciation by waving to the crowd twice and blowing kisses their way.

“Just coming back and seeing the love they still have for me and they showed, man, it felt good. Even in defeat I'm able to embrace it and take it for what it was and it meant a lot. I spent a decade here so just to see that ovation and the love they showed it was meaningful.”

And after the homecoming game that jumped the future Hall of Famer into sixth place, he's only 400 yards shy of passing Curtis Martin to be in the top five for the all-time rushing list.
