Quarterback Case Keenum knows he still has a lot left in the tank, but also understands that his career is probably not going to continue with the Washington Redskins. Keenum was traded to the Redskins before the 2019 season and many believed he would be the quarterback for a couple of years in Washington.
The team drafted Dwayne Haskins and that turned Keenum into a placeholder. He did start eight games in 2019, throwing for 1,707 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Keenum said he can't predict the future, but knows the writing is on the wall.
“I have no idea. I would say probably not,” Keenum said in an exclusive interview with NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay about returning to Washington. “I can't tell the future though.”
Towards the end of the season, the keys of the franchise were handed to Haskins, and Keenum was really impressed with what the rookie quarterback showed.
“I think Dwayne did an incredible job towards the end of the season, adapting and getting a lot better,” Keenum said. “I think it's his team moving forward.”‘
Keenum doesn't know if another job will come his way, but he thinks he played well enough to prove he deserves to be on a team going forward.
“I feel like I played really good football. I know the wins and losses didn't show it.” Keenum said on his performance last season. “I'd love another shot to play in this league. So if there's another chance, another opportunity out there, I'm not sure where that might be, I don't take these things lightly. I'm going to go compete and make myself better this offseason and hopefully and be ready for whatever team might come calling.”
Keenum has been a solid backup throughout his career and it would be smart for another team to bring him in for that role.
