Washington Redskins left guard Ereck Flowers has a smile on his face being with a new team, but his time with the New York Giants was rough, and he took a lot of heat from the media and fans.

Heading into the first game with the Redskins, Flowers was asked to reflect on being in the Big Apple, and he said even with all the bad things, he learned a lot of good lessons.

“If you read about me, you’d swear I was this villain,” Flowers told NJ Advance Media. “A lot of people don’t know me, so maybe some people have some built-up opinion about me.”

“….just taught me valuable lessons, not to focus on what somebody else is saying about you. Sometimes, you’ve got to look at who is saying it.”

Flowers was drafted with the ninth overall pick in the 2015 draft and with that comes a lot of expectations. There are no doubts that Flowers had his struggles, but he didn't get much support around him.

Now with the Redskins, he has switched positions, and he has improved his game. He thinks the fresh start has been the best thing for him, and he is excited about where things are heading from here.

“I didn’t have anger,” he said of the Giants releasing him. “I just wanted a fresh start. For me, football has been more enjoyable here. I’m just trying to refine my game, get rid of bad habits, and create some good ones, especially at a new position.”

Flowers is expected to be a big part of the Redskins offensive line, and twice a year he can get some revenge on the Giants.
