The Washington Redskins shocked a lot of people, including Jason Witten, when they claimed Reuben Foster just a few days after he was arrested for domestic violence. Witten called the Monday Night Football game between the Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles, and he made it a point during the fourth quarter to give his thoughts on the signing:

“I believe the Washington Redskins used horrendous judgment in claiming this guy,” Witten said during the fourth quarter, per Philly.com. “I understand that it's an ongoing investigation. But my family has been affected by domestic violence. I understand the anguish that it causes. Young players just have to understand that there is no tolerance for putting your hands on a woman, period.”

It was interesting that there was so much talk by the ESPN crew about the Foster case, because discussing these issues is something these broadcasts often stay away from. Booger McFarland also weighed in a few minutes later, saying the NFL needed a more strict policy that would work:

“I think the NFL needs a more stringent policy when it comes to domestic violence,” McFarland said. “Make the punishment work.”

Domestic violence is an issue Witten is passionate about, as he has been very open about dealing with it as a child. In 2010, he started his own foundation to help combat the issue, which places trained mentors in women's shelters throughout Texas.

Reuben Foster is still on the Commissioner Exempt list and will stay until the legal case plays out in Florida.
