When the Washington Redskins signed Josh Norman to a five-year, $75 million contract back in April 2016, they thought they were getting one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL.

Well, Norman turned out to be a pretty big disappointment over his first three seasons in the nation's capital, and now, in the veteran's fourth season with the club, he is barely even playing.

Over the last three games, Norman has played just six total snaps, four of them coming on defense and two on special teams.

As for why Norman is dressing but barely participating? Interim head coach Bill Callahan did not offer up much of an explanation, only saying that “he's still in a role where he could potentially play,” per JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington.

That doesn't sound too promising.

In the 11 games he has played this season, Norman has logged 40 tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble and six passes defended.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Coastal Carolina, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round (143rd pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He played in all 16 games during his rookie campaign, finishing with 71 tackles, a pick and seven passes defended. Injuries limited him to just seven contests in 2013, and the following year, he participated in 14 games and totaled 54 tackles, a couple of interceptions and 11 passes defended.

It wasn't until 2015 when Norman broke out, as he racked up 56 tackles, four picks, three forced fumbles, a pair of fumble recoveries, 18 passes defended and two defensive touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

He linked up with the Redskins the next year and has not been the same since.
