Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins is entering the NFL with a chip on his shoulder, but Urban Meyer has his back. On draft night when he fell all the way to 15th, Haskins made it clear he wanted to punish the rest of the league for passing on him. As Haskins transitions to the pros, one of his old coaches recently expressed a lot of confidence in his former signal-caller.

Speaking on a recent podcast, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer raved about Haskins, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“He’s going to be great. He’s very intelligent. His only issue is that he played just one year, every other thing he’s got it… Great kid. Very smart. He was the most accurate passer that I’ve ever had,” the recently retired coach said.

Meyer announced toward the end of last season that he'd be stepping down as the Buckeyes' coach at the end of the year. It makes sense why Meyer thinks so highly of him. Haskins was dominant in his one year as a starter. In 2018 Haskins threw for 4,831 yards and a whopping 50 touchdowns compared to just eight interceptions.

Haskins is surely trying to make his mark right away, but he has his work cut out for him. To even get on the field, he'll have to beat out veteran Case Keenum in a training camp battle.

Keenum might not seem too intimidating, but he has stuck in the league this long for a reason. Keenum is more than capable of putting up a fight, and Haskins won't be handed the job. That being said, the Redskins are certainly hoping that he'll win it, and he's undeniably the team's future. The fact that Meyer is so confident in him is another good sign for his prospects.
