The Washington Football Team publicly committed to turning the page and making changes to a rotting team culture which is backed by several allegations and incidents. However, the organization seemed to be straying away from their promise as they went on to bring in another previously problematic player after releasing one.

On August 7, Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice was arrested for domestic violence charges and was released by the team shortly after. Two days later, the team brought in linebacker Reuben Foster from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Foster was famously-known to be tied to a myriad of off-field issues ever since he came to the league in 2017. On April 12, 2018, he was charged with felony counts of multiple domestic violence, possession of a weapon, and infliction of bodily harm. On November 24, 2018, Foster was arrested again on probable cause misdemeanor domestic violence charges and was released by the 49ers the following day. Washington claimed him off waivers shortly after his release.

All charges from his November incident were dropped when a judge ruled there was no probable cause to the accusations. This came after Foster’s alleged accuser, Elissa Ennis, testified under oath that she had fabricated the story “as a money scheme”. He was eventually tagged as innocent and the league decided not to suspend him. Ennis later said that she lied in court to protect Foster’s career.

“There are some things that we will continue to grow on and improve,” head coach Ron Rivera said. It is hard, but the thing that I’ve got to do and the thing that we all have to understand, and I tell the players, is that when we decide to do something we have to think about what we’re going to do. We have to honestly think, ‘Is what I’m about to do truly going to help us?’”

Now that Foster is back with the team, the upcoming developments in his situation will certainly bring the club's name back to the headlines. Washington is and will be stuck in a long offseason that the club and its fans will remember for a long time.
