Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith's wife, Elizabeth, posted a video showing off his recovery and footwork for his 36th birthday. The fact he can even walk after the gruesome injury is incredible, and it's even more incredible that he is trying to make a comeback to the NFL (via NBC Sports' JP Finlay).

Elizabeth Smith wife also included a caption with a picture of the Redskins quarterback, thanking everyone for the support over the last 18 months.

“Happy Happy Birthday to this handsome, hard working man. The last week we’ve been overwhelmed with love, support and sweet messages. We cannot thank you enough. #project11 was a look into what the last 18 months have been (mostly Alex refusing to give up). I am in awe of his perseverance everyday. He just keeps getting stronger and refuses to give up… Forever grateful”

On November 18, 2018, Smith suffered a leg injury playing for the Redskins against the Houston Texans that put his football career in jeopardy. He had multiple surgeries on the leg and had to wear a metal fixation for months.

It's unclear at this point if he will ever get that chance to play football again, but he has stayed active on the Redskins and tried to help be a mentor for Dwayne Haskins. Haskins tweeted out early in May that Smith had been a great help on and off the field as he tried to make the adjustment to the NFL.

Even if Smith doesn't ever make it back to the field for the Redskins, it's good to know he will still be living a quality life, something that was in question just 18 months ago.
