The future of Minnesota Timberwolves floor general Ricky Rubio has been uncertain for the better part of a season-and-a-half, being dangled by front office executives as Kris Dunn was hoped to be the point guard of the future.

Given this past season's results — that hasn't panned out, with Rubio showing he's undisputedly the best player at the position, yet still drawing plenty of eyes from teams around the league.

The Spanish international changed agents, dropping Dan Fegan, and picking Jeff Schwartz as his new representative, one known to have a deep connection with Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks, according to Mike Fisher of Scout.com.

The Mavs have been known to be on the hunt for a point guard and Rubio fits every bit of that bill, becoming a facilitator for a well-aged Dirk Nowitzki, an improving Seth Curry, and their leading scorer, Harrison Barnes.

Rubio's price might be at an all-time low as the draft nears, with the regalia of freshmen talent in the top 15 having more actual value to teams than actual players.

Dallas boasts the No. 9 pick, and if traded to Minnesota, the Timberwolves would be able to get two selections in the top 10 of the draft, allowing for a backup plan in case Dunn doesn't grow into the player they envisioned him to be, plus another player to fit their needs.

The Knicks have also shown deep interest for Rubio, so it would be wise for the Mavs to put some of their best cards on the shelf if they hope to lure him away from Minnesota.

A direct relationship with Schwartz is surely an added benefit that could help break the tie in case of a pick 'em type offer between these two proponents.
