It looks like Daryl Morey, now the president of basketball operations of the Philadelphia 76ers, knew James Harden was going to request a trade from the Houston Rockets, which is why he left the franchise first.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Morey parted ways with the Rockets in October because he had a sense that Harden was going to find a way to get out of Houston.

“Listen, I think your cause and effect is out of whack there,” MacMahon said on an ESPN podcast. “Daryl pulled the ripcord because he knew Harden was going to pull the ripcord. ‘You want to jump out of the plane? Not until I go first.'”

James Harden has reportedly requested a trade from the Rockets. The Sixers, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks are just a few of the contenders Harden wants to get traded to.

Daryl Morey, while he would love to acquire Harden from the Rockets, wants to keep Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid together, at least for one season so he can see what they look like on the court as a duo.

The 2020-21 season will begin on Dec. 22. It's going to be fascinating to see if Harden is on the Rockets or gets his wish and is dealt out of Clutch City.

A three-time scoring champion and the 2018 MVP, Harden averaged 34.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game for the Rockets last season.
