Alvin Kamara has been absent from practice with the New Orleans Saints in recent days and many believe his absence is contract related. Unless Kamara decides to return to the team, the Saints are willing to trade the dual-threat running back, per Josina Anderson, formerly of ESPN.

Kamara, a third-round pick of the Saints in 2017, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Tennessee product is slated to make $2.1 million in 2020 and is a vital member of New Orleans' offense. As a result, Kamara is seeking to get a long-term deal before the upcoming season begins.

Since entering the NFL in 2017, not many running backs have been as versatile as Kamara. Altogether, in his first three seasons with the Saints, Kamara has accounted for over 1,300 scrimmage yards in each season and 37 total touchdowns.

Just a season ago though, Kamara dealt with multiple injuries and had the least productive season of his young career. The three-time Pro Bowler produced career-lows in rushing touchdowns (five), receiving yards (533), and yards from scrimmage (1,330). Still, for the third consecutive year, the pass-catching back was able to record 81 receptions for the Saints in 2019.

There are a plethora of running backs from the 2017 NFL Draft that are hoping to garner new contracts in the near future. Christian McCaffrey and Joe Mixon—who signed his new deal on Tuesday—are just two of the backs that have gotten new extensions from the 2017 draft class.

Without a doubt, Kamara has been a focal point for the Saints in the past three seasons. But with the team's dire cap situation, they may be inclined to trade him if he continues to hold out.
