Sean Payton knows that Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints has been one of the brightest stars in the Big Easy for several years. The three-time Pro Bowler is poised to have another fantastic season as the Saints' main RB option this season. Since entering the league in 2017, the 25-year old has been nothing short of brilliant but the story of his journey with the team had quite the rough beginning.

Recently, head coach Sean Payton shared the story of him going all the way to Tennessee to see the young Kamara workout in person. It was an interesting story, to say the least, and Kamara's version of it is definitely amusing.

“That day, I was not planning on working out and I was very adamant about not working out.” Kamara said (via Sharief Ishaq of WDSU-TV). “I mean I know who Sean Payton is but I don't know him personally so I was like ‘I don't care, I'm not trying to work out. I'm good'. But then Sean was like, ‘No I wanna see you work out' so I run to the equipment room real quick and asked my equipment manager for some cleats. At this point, I don't care – the Saints want to see me workout, I don't know why. I go out there, I don't even stretch. He was explaining stuff and I was like ‘Come on man, I got this.' Whatever, get through it. He was like, ‘alright good, thanks'. I told myself I wasn't working out but I worked out and then I ended up being drafted here.”

Good thing Kamara decided to work out that fateful day because in the end, it all worked out for him and the Saints. Although he dropped all the way to the 67th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, he quickly showed everyone, including Payton and the Saints that he was indeed the real deal. He ended his stellar debut in the league by being awarded the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year and his career took off from there.
