The New Orleans Saints, after showing interest in Alfred Morris and Theo Riddick, have added an extra back to their running back rotation led by Alvin Kamara. The team announced on Thursday they have signed former Arizona Cardinal Kerwynn Williams. Subsequently, they waived running back Mathew Dayes with an injury designation.

The 28-year-old was a seventh-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2013 NFL Draft. He played one game for the Colts, returning a kick for 28 yards, then joined the practice squad. The then-San Diego Chargers claimed off the practice squad and activated him for one game before releasing him the next preseason.

After his stints in Indianapolis and San Diego, Williams joined the Arizona Cardinals as a practice squad member. He was later elevated to the active roster and recorded his first 100-yard rushing game against the Kansas City Chiefs in early December. In his first season, he ran for 246 yards on 4.6 yards per carry.

Williams played three more seasons in Phoenix. In his second, he ran for 142 yards and a touchdown on 5.3 yards per carry. The next season he rushed for 157 and two scores on 8.7 yards per carry. In his last season in Arizona (2017), he tallied 426 rushing yards and a score on 3.6 yards per carry.

After 2017, Williams played with the Chiefs in the preseason. In the 2019 offseason, he's spent stints with the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, he's on his fourth team in the span of one year. If he makes the Saints' roster he'll play behind Kamara and Latavius Murray.
