The New Orleans Saints retained quarterback Jameis Winston on Monday, signing him to a two-year deal worth $28 million after missing out on their pursuit of Deshaun Watson. Of course, Winston is coming off an injury-riddled campaign where he tore his ACL in October, playing in just seven games.

However, it appears the Saints signal-caller will be ready to roll by training camp as long as his rehab continues to go to plan.

Via Adam Schefter:

Winston was actually doing a solid job as QB1 before he went on the shelf, completing 95 of 161 passes for 1,170 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also threw just three interceptions. Winston posted a 59 completion percentage as well, the highest of his career. The 28-year-old's injury was just one of many unfortunate turn of events for the Saints' QB room, using a total of four signal-callers throughout 2021 due to health problems. Taysom Hill, Ian Book, and Trevor Sieman all saw playing time.

Winston went 5-2 as the starter and will certainly be the favorite to lead the offense again in 2022. Hill is likely his most fierce competition, but he is still dealing with a brutal foot injury that resulted in surgery.

The Saints are heading into a new era without longtime head coach Sean Payton and let's hope Jameis Winston can play a key factor in getting them back to the postseason.
