It's understandable if fans are unsure about the team's ability to pull off the improbable upset. After all, the Jets are still at the bottom of the league with their poor 1-4 record. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots are standing at the top of the NFL with their perfect 6-0 record. However, there's more to this game than just what the record says.
There's enough basis for any football fan to believe that the Jets will manage to win this coming game against the Patriots, and Darnold will be the one lifting the team to an improbable win at MetLife Stadium. Here are some of the reasons why this is possible.
First of all, Darnold pulled off an incredible performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6. He threw for a superb 338 yards and two touchdowns on a 71% pass completion rate. And this is his first game back after sitting out four weeks of football to recover from mono.
The game showcased the high ceiling Darnold possesses as the Jets QB and rightly gave Darnold the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. For him to show such a spirited performance in his first game back is nothing short of incredible.
His ability to read games and make the necessary adjustments is nothing short of spectacular as well. He showcased his ability and potential to become one of the league's most dangerous QBs moving forward, and fans are understandably hyped about it. He will surely try to pull it off against one of the best defenses in the league.
Moreover, the Patriots are giving him a chance to try his stuff next to a mediocre Pats offense.
The only reason the Patriots have gone undefeated so far this season is due to their outstanding defense. The Patriots have failed to connect on offense, and their final scores so far show just that. They had close games against the Buffalo Bills, and they weren't able to run away from the New York Giants until the fourth quarter. Even Tom Brady is unsure about the team's current state on offense.
With the Pats giving them such an opportunity to shine, the Jets will do everything they can to claim it. Moreover, Darnold will be hungry to keep the good times rolling and compete against Tom Brady's team.
