There has been plenty of speculation that USC Trojans quarterback Sam Darnold would return to school if the Cleveland Browns had the first pick in next year's NFL Draft. According to the talented gunslinger, that is simply untrue.

“I didn’t say anything about the Browns,” Darnold said, via the Orange County Register. “I’ve never said anything bad about a team. They know I would never say anything.”

This kid will unlikely win no matter what happens between now and his decision.

If he returns to school, even if he says it is untrue, Sam Darnold will be tagged as the kid who refused to play for the Cleveland Browns. If he declares for the NFL Draft following the season's end, he might have to play for Cleveland.

Those aren't great options.

I kid!

For what it is worth, there is almost no chance of Hue Jackson returning to Cleveland next season. While that is unlikely a factor Darnold is considering, at least not near the forefront of his mind, the Browns might look drastically different by the time he has to make his decision.

Not to mention the fact that he might not be the first pick in the draft anyway. It all depends on where Cleveland, or whatever other NFL franchise, has him on the big board. Maybe he isn't the top quarterback selected if he comes out for the draft.

Nevertheless, the hearsay alone forced the youngster to comment on something he's apparently never said. Isn't everything grand?
