After making the announcement on Twitter, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Seahawks are going to work toward either trading or releasing Reed.

Seattle's plan was to go to Reed in hopes to convert some of his contract into a bonus to create cap space for the team. On the other hand, Reed was interested in a long-term extension with the team, which the Seahawks showed no interest in doing.

As a result, Reed is now going to be parting ways with Seattle with one year remaining on his current contract after signing a two-year deal prior to the 2020 season. Regardless of whether he's traded or released, Reed is going to drum up a ton of interest on the open market.

Reed kickstarted his career as a second-round pick of the Seahawks in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Alabama. After having a minimal role in his rookie season, Reed has been a mainstay in the interior of Seattle's defensive front.

In the past three seasons, Reed has accumulated 19 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 46 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles. The Alabama product has been a stalwart in the middle of Seattle's defense and he leaves a massive void for them heading into the 2021 season. Following a five-year tenure with the Seahawks, Reed is prepared to continue his journey in the NFL elsewhere soon.
