Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will soon be living what most people would call a dream. You know—because life isn’t already what most would call a dream. But in the days ahead, he’ll be doing what millions of young boys have dreamed of doing.

He’ll be reporting to training camp with the New York Yankees. Wilson made the announcement on social media Thursday.

“I can't wait to see you guys Feb. 26,” Wilson said (via ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick). “We're going to have some fun for that week. Hey, Aaron Judge, I know you want to throw some passes, so let's play some ball. We'll have a little home run derby too. Stanton, I'm coming for you too. We'll have some fun, baby. And hey — let's go win a World Series. Why not? Peace.”

Wilson played a little minor league baseball before deciding to focus on football and has maintained a connection to the game. For the last couple of years, he’s been reporting to camp with the Texas Rangers since they had his rights. But for some reason, they decided to trade his rights away to the Yankees.

He never did much with the Rangers and will likely not do too much with the Yankees either. He’ll probably just put on a uniform and go through the paces in practice for the six days he is going to be in Tampa, Florida.

Do the Yankees expect anything to develop? Of course not. Having Wilson come to practice is just a gimmick. But if a team has a gimmick that will help engage fans, it would be silly not to use it.
