Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas made headlines recently when he decided to skip the start of voluntary workouts. Given his current contract situation, it seemed like an indication that Thomas was getting ready to begin a protracted holdout in search of a new deal.

However, Seahawks general manager John Schneider doesn’t believe his All-Pro defensive back will hold out even without a new contract, which is what Thomas’ agents told him.

“No, I don't. I don't,” Schneider said, per Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “He has not said he would hold out. His representatives told me that.”

Schneider also added that he has not had talks with Thomas’ reps about a new deal since the Combine. Thomas is in the final year of his deal this season.

Schneider’s comments come after head coach Pete Carroll said he’s “counting on Thomas” for the upcoming season and also expects him to be in camp later in the summer.

Thomas has been strongly linked this offseason to a move to his boyhood team, the Dallas Cowboys, who have reportedly expressed interest in getting a deal done for the star safety. However, the Seahawks’ price tag of a first- and a third-rounder has been prohibitive.

The next few days could be crucial for Thomas’ future with the Seahawks since they’d likely be eager to move him prior to the draft. But if Thomas does remain with the team after the draft, perhaps they may consider getting back to work on a new contract, which would finally bring an end to all the speculation regarding a potential holdout.
