The impending debut of Ben Simmons for the Philadelphia 76ers received a major boost recently, as last year’s top overall pick dominated in their “Blue x White” scrimmage on Sunday.

According to Keith Pompey of Philly.com, Simmons played mostly at the point guard spot, and finished with an impressive stat line of 23 points, on 10-for-15 shooting, to go along with five rebounds and five assists.

At 6-foot-10, and 230 pounds, the Australian international will cause a lot of nightmare matchups should he be utilized as the Sixers’ playmaker in a lot of stretches during games. When asked about his performance on Sunday, Simmons discussed his ability to set up his teammates and attack the basket strong when needed.

“People get caught up in the looks of the passes,” Simmons said of being more than an assist-maker. “It looks nice, but at the end of the day, I know how to get to the rim and score and finish.

“And I feel like I know how to open a lot of doors for other players for them to score, too.”

It can be recalled that Ben Simmons missed the entirety of last season after he suffered a Jones Fracture on his right foot during the final day of training camp. Now that he is back to 100 percent, he is eager to start his professional career strong, and prove all his doubters wrong.

If Simmons' performance during their scrimmage is any indication for what’s in store for him this coming season, it could spell bad news for the rest of the competition. Not only is he looking forward to playing, but he could also emerge as a strong candidate for the Rookie of the Year Award, and would give the Sixers one of the tallest point guards in the league as well.
