Philadelphia 76ers star big man Joel Embiid didn't practice on Friday due to a right ankle sprain and he's questionable to play on Saturday when the Sixers take on the Detroit Pistons.

Embiid also received sutures for the lip laceration he suffered in the Sixers' season opener against the Boston Celtics:

Embiid scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against the Celtics in 23 minutes. The Sixers defeated Boston easily, winning by a final score of 107-93.

The Pistons have one of the best centers in the NBA in Andre Drummond, who as we all know has a little bit of a rivalry with Embiid. Detroit is 1-1 on the season. They defeated the Indiana Pacers on opening night, but fell to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday.

Embiid played in 64 games last season for the Sixers. The two-time All-Star averaged 27.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.9 blocks while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 30.0 percent from beyond the arc and 80.4 percent from the free-throw line. Embiid recorded 58 double-doubles and two triple-doubles. He's universally recognized as the best big man in the NBA.

The Sixers may be just being cautious with Embiid by holding him out of Friday's practice. We'll know on Saturday if Embiid is playing against the Pistons.
