Markelle Fultz just couldn't catch a break from the fans.

The 2017 first overall pick has been a popular target by fans all season (and most recently – Philadelphia 76ers legend Julius Erving) as undeserving of the top selection – especially with the top performing rookie from the batch (a certain Donovan Mitchell) being picked as late as number 13 and proving to be great value for the Utah Jazz.

Then came pre-game workout photos and footage of his reworked jump shooting mechanics that could be effectively summarized as a funky push shot, leading to more mean-spirited social media commentary and memes. It got worse when he was finally cleared to play and ended up being a bench player that gives star Ben Simmons 18 minutes worth of a breather.

Now, the fans even took the insults to his family member – his mother, Ebony Fultz, in particular. A major no-no among people, and it's no different for sports athletes.

It started with Mrs. Fultz tweeting an inspirational photo meant to inspire the struggling teenager.

Unfortunately, several replies were derogatory and personal, prompting Fultz to come to the aid of his mother and set things straight.

Fultz and the Sixers lost for the third straight game to the Boston Celtics – a 101-98 overtime loss that appeared to be won for a moment in regulation after a potential game-winning three by guard Marco Belinelli (leading to the confetti being popped prematurely) only for the shot to be ruled a mere two.

The Sixers now find themselves on a three games to none hole where no team has ever crawled out of to win the series.
