The Philadelphia 76ers plan to hire former NBA veteran Elton Brand as a general manager of their G League team, the Delaware 87ers, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. Brand played five of his 17 NBA seasons in Philadelphia and served as a development consultant after his last year in the league in 2015-16, where he played 17 games with the Sixers.

Brand has been one of the most inspiring veterans after being drafted with the top overall pick in 1999. As an undersized power forward, he had 10 rebounds or more in six of his seven seasons in the league, ultimately forced to morph his game into a more perimeter-friendly one after suffering an injury that saw him miss the vast majority of the 2007-08 season.

With the decline of his athleticism, Brand surged as a mentor in the last few years of his career thanks to his blue-collar attitude and attention to detail. That very skill carried onto his consultant role with the team, one he has forged into this opportunity to lead the Sixers' farm system early into his post-basketball career.

As a team that is trying to growth with the youth acquired through the NBA Draft, Brand is sure to become part of “The Process” going forward.
