Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has quickly proven to be one of the game's most promising players in his brief NBA career.

However, the injury bug has continued to hamper his time on the court over that span causing the team organization and fan base to constantly be on edge anytime Embiid takes a tumble during the course of a game. This was once again the case on Saturday night as he took an awkward face-first dive into the padded base of the basketball hoop after trying to attempt to defend a shot by Zaza Pachulia.

It appears that Embiid dodged a major bullet as he could have easily turned out to be a disastrous situation given the angle that he hit the base of the basketball hoop. The 23-year-old could have suffered a major injury from the play, but instead, it likely knocked the wind out of him and shaken him up a little bit requiring him to take his time to catch his breath.

It should be an encouraging sign that Embiid was able to get up under his own power and stay in the game. There will likely be tests performed on his shoulder and back to see if there is any structural damage to the area.

Beyond that, expect the 76ers to continue to monitor the rising star big man more closely moving forward given his well-documented injury history since entering the NBA.
