The Los Angeles Sparks are looking to get back into the win column following their loss against the Indiana Fever on Friday. But for the Sparks to get a win against the visiting Dallas Wings, they're going to have to do so without starting point guard Layshia Clarendon who was ruled out for the second half due to a head injury.

Clarendon had played only seven minutes before exiting the game. They had four points on 1-0f-2 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line along with one foul. Clarendon is in their second season with the Sparks after signing as a free agent ahead of the 2023 season.

Through the Sparks first four games of the season, Clarendon had been averaging 5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 47.1 percent shooting from the field, 60 percent shooting from the three-point line and 75 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Last season, Clarendon played on the wing as the Sparks starting small forward. They averaged 11.1 points which was their second-highest career average.

With Layshia Clarendon out of the lineup, the Sparks will turn to veteran guard Lexie Brown to handle playmaking and ball-handling duties for the second half against the Wings. The Sparks have experimented with Brown, a natural two-guard, at the point beginning with their loss back on May 18 against the Las Vegas Aces.

The Sparks picked up their first win of the season on May 21 against the Washington Mystics while running Brown at point guard for the entire fourth quarter. Brown ended up playing all 40 minutes in that game.

The Sparks are 1-4 to start the 2024 WNBA season with losses coming against the Atlanta Dream, Aces and Fever. The team is in a true rebuild having lost franchise cornerstone Nneka Ogwumike to free agency while landing the No. 2 and No. 4 overall picks in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Sparks used those picks to draft Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson, respectively.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available. Following the Sparks game against the Wings, they will hit the road for three straight games against the Fever, Chicago Sky and Phoenix Mercury.
