San Antonio Spurs forward Rudy Gay will be sidelined against the Orlando Magic due to a right heel soreness.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich confirmed the development ahead of the Magic's visit to AT&T Center, per Michael Wright of ESPN.

Rudy Gay has been initially listed as doubtful for the Sunday game as he battles through the heel injury. However, it seems the issue continues to bother him, as Popovich and the Spurs decided to rule out the veteran forward despite starting seven of their opening eight games.

The injury, though, doesn't appear serious, and the 32-year-old is reportedly expected to recover in time for their visit to the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

Rudy Gay is averaging 13.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He is the team's third-leading scorer, behind DeMar DeRozan (27.6 ppg) and LaMarcus Aldridge (20.8 ppg).

In his absence, the Spurs could opt to start and give more playing time to Marco Belinelli or Quincy Pondexter. Dante Cunningham could be given the starting nod too, having already started in place of Gay in their second meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers last week.

So far, San Antonio is 6-2, so they shouldn't have a problem handling the 2-6 Magic. Even without Rudy Gay, the Spurs have a variety of other options they can use against their inconsistent opponent.
