San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard is still not quite ready to make his season debut. According to Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News, he and Tony Parker have traveled with the team to Chicago, but neither is expected to play for the Spurs' game against the Bulls on Saturday.

Kawhi Leonard missed all of preseason and training camp, as well as the Spurs’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a quad injury. San Antonio still got the win against Minnesota, though, as Kyle Anderson (12 points, nine rebounds) and Rudy Gay (14 points, five rebounds) stepped up in Leonard’s absence.

Second-year point guard Dejounte Murray also had a big night with 16 points as he got the start in place of Parker.

Kawhi Leonard is coming off an outstanding season where he set yet another career-high in points. He averaged 25.5 points and was named to the All-NBA First Team for the second straight year. However, his run of consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards was snapped at two as it went to Draymond Green.

The Spurs rely more on Leonard to be their focal point offensively these days and will need him to be as healthy as possible. Given his importance to the team, the Spurs aren’t likely to risk him until they feel he’s completely healthy to play.
