If you think the issues behind Kawhi Leonard’s disappearance from the San Antonio Spurs lineup is weird, it’s become even more bizarre with his uncle allegedly involved behind the scenes.

“Allegedly” because though Dennis Robertson, Leonard’s uncle, and business manager, has denied the earlier report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Michael C. Wright, Stephen A. Smith from ESPN’s “First Take” reiterates that he, too has heard the same story. Robertson has been a problem for the organization.

According to an earlier interview by Sports Illustrated’s Jared Zwerling via UPROXX, “Dennis had a chat with R.C. Buford, GM of the Spurs, and it was a great conversation. Overall, here’s the consensus: the story is farthest from the truth. That was a quote from Dennis. We talked about the situation. Really, there’s no issue between Kawhi and the Spurs.”

Smith insists that his sources say otherwise. The story has persisted because the Spurs are still missing Lenard’s services despite being medically cleared to play by doctors.

The season has been a roller-coaster ride for the Spurs who are not used to this kind of controversy. Leonard came back from an injury last month but had to return to the injury list. When healthy, Leonard is one of the most dynamic players in the NBA. Last season, the Spurs leading scorer was an MVP candidate, but lost to the triple-double machine, Russell Westbrook.

In the eyes of many, Leonard was on his way to becoming the best player in the game before he was injured.

In Leonard’s nine appearances this season, he has averaged 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds.
