The Los Angeles Lakers have an obvious interest in Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving. Irving, of course, reciprocated that interest when he provided the Nets with a “wish list” of sorts, in case he were to be signed and traded. The Lakers were on said list.

However, it's not an easy task for LA to trade for Irving. The most logical package would involve Russell Westbrook and draft picks, though that would almost certainly not be enough compensation for Irving in the eyes of Brooklyn. That means that the Lakers might need to get creative.

Or they might need some help. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed how the San Antonio Spurs could help to facilitate a deal between the two sides.

“A team like the Spurs could be a facilitator in a Westbrook/Kyrie deal. You'd have to incentivize them at a pretty high level. That unwillingness of the Lakers to incentivize w/ multiple picks is still part of the reason that hasn't gone anywhere yet. That could change.”

Woj reports that the Spurs “could be a facilitator” in a Lakers-Nets, Westbrook-Irving trade. San Antonio could take on Westbrook in a potential deal and get “incentivized” for it in the form of draft picks from the Lakers.

Where the Spurs would go from there is unclear. A potential buyout of Westbrook could be on the table. However, the bigger story is that San Antonio could be a player in the Kyrie Irving trade.

That may be the only way this deal gets done.
