The Pittsburgh Steelers open up their NFL preseason schedule on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, and they are going to be a bit short-handed. Landry Jones, Josh Dobbs, and Mason Rudolph are all expected to play, while Ben Roethlisberger will sit the game out.

“I haven’t determined how I am going to utilize them in totality other than Ben will not play,” Tomlin said via CBS 2 Pittsburgh. “Mason’s done a really good job, but again, he hasn’t been hit. There will be attempts to hit him on Thursday night.”

Antonio Brown has been held out with an undisclosed injury and although Tomlin says he is close to returning he also won't be on the field for the Steelers on Thursday night either.

“He’s getting closer to return in terms of his health, but he won’t be playing in the game,” Tomlin said.

Missing these two guys won't have much effect on the game as they would have probably played a series or maybe two anyways. It's perhaps best that Roethlisberger sits as the Steelers are going to have to make big decisions this preseason about what quarterbacks they want on the roster.

The Steelers used a draft choice on Rudolph this year so seeing him be cut would be shocking. That means the Steelers need to decide if they want to keep three quarterbacks and if they do will they keep Dobbs or the veteran Jones.

A clearer picture of the quarterback battle will probably be known after this game depending on how much each guy plays and how good they look while they are on the field.
