Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers coach Darryl Drake tragically passed away on Sunday morning, and his life and legacy are being remembered.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had kind words to say about the 62-year-old Drake, who was hired by the organization in 2018 after years with the Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears and a long history of coaching at the college level.
From Jeremy Fowler in ESPN.com:
Earlier today team owner and president Art Rooney II released a statement in part saying “[Drake] was a passionate coach and had a tremendous spirit toward life, his family, his faith and the game of football.”
Tomlin has been with the franchise since 2007 and coached the Steelers to a Super Bowl championship in 2008-09.
Drake played two seasons in the NFL after attending Western Kentucky.
He would return to the school as a coach for nearly a decade before finding employment as a coordinator at Georgia, Baylor, and Texas, later in 2003 being hired in the NFL.
