One of the storylines following Game 5 of the Phoenix Suns battle with the New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday night was the emergence of an unlikely hero. Undrafted rookie Jose Alvarado, who was on a 2-way contract until late March, has been masterful in his role: getting under Chris Paul's skin.

Despite a decisive game 5 112-97 Suns win, Alvarado had another moment in the limelight.

The rookie forced an 8-second violation on the All Star point guard, this time with a technical foul added onto it. Paul expressed his frustration with both calls to reporters after the game.

Paul says he saw 16 seconds still on the shot clock when the violation was called. He said “come on” to an official at the scorers table and was hit with a tech.

“If I say ‘come on,' is that a tech?” he said. “It's out of control man. That's ridiculous. But it is what it is.”

Paul's comments come a day after Suns head coach Monty Williams was slapped with a $15k fine for comments critical of officials.

“42-to-15 in free throws. You can slice that any way you want to,” Williams told reporters after Sunday's game 4. “In a playoff game that physical, that’s amazing. Coaches shouldn’t have to come up to the microphone and feel like they’re going to get their heads cut off for speaking the truth. It was 17-to-2 in the first half and they end up with 42. That’s hard to do in a game like that. And it’s not like we don’t attack the basket.”
