Former Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson has entered the free agency market for the second straight year after the Arizona Cardinals decided to part ways with him. This has put him out there to decide where he wants to make his next stop in his illustrious NFL career.

In the last few days, he has been quite vocal about his desire to potentially play for the Houston Texans near his hometown of Palestine, Texas. Peterson once again voiced that sentiment during an interview with ESPN's “First Take” stating that it would be the “perfect landing spot” for him this offseason. (h/t Sarah Barshop of ESPN)

“It has always been my dream to come back home and play,” Peterson said. “Taken that I've been living in Houston for over a decade. That would be a perfect landing spot, here in my backyard. That would be very convenient.”

Peterson is coming off a bumpy 2017 season that initially began with playing with the New Orleans Saints after signing a two-year, $7 million deal. He had played in just four games with the Saints in a secondary role racking up just 47 rushing yards before being traded to the Cardinals. Peterson played just six games with the team before a neck injury prematurely ended his season after just 10 total games played.

The 32-year-old did show some glimpses of his old self in the first three games with the Cardinals rushing for at least 130 yards twice over that span. However, his play took a significant decline in the final three contests failing to break 30 rushing yards twice during that stretch. Peterson has voiced that his neck is completely healed and should be ready to go to contribute for another NFL team.

The Houston Texans are an intriguing choice given that team already has a strong option in the backfield in Lamar Miller. He is coming off his second year with the team where he had a drop in production rushing for 888 yards with three touchdowns along with 36 catches for 327 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The addition of Peterson could help bring more production out of the backfield with a proven player that could step in to be a huge factor in the running game.

Although Peterson has voiced his desire to join the Texans, he may have to wait until the market levels out before he receives any significant interest. Until then, this scenario could certainly be on the table.
