Although the 2017 NFL season did not go quite as planned, the Houston Texans were finally able to identify their franchise quarterback of the future in Deshaun Watson. Needless to say, no one is more excited about their discovery than head coach Bill O'Brien.

O'Brien agreed to a lucrative extension with the team this offseason. However, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, he seems to be more excited about the future of Watson under center:

“It's great for our organization to have that stability at quarterback,” O'Brien said. “And it's because of Deshaun. He's a really good guy. He's a fun guy to coach. He wants to be challenged. He wants to constantly improve. He loves the game. He loves coming in every day and going to work. I love his mindset and approach to things.

“I have a lot of confidence in him and the players around him. He's got the skillset. He puts the time in. I know he's the type of player that when you call a play, it's got a chance to work. He knows what needs to be done to make the play work.”

It goes without saying that there is good reason for O'Brien's optimism.

Houston got Watson at a steal with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Although he was unable to secure the starting job in the offseason, it did not take long for him to prove himself on the big stage.

Watson threw for 1,699 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions and also tacked on another 269 yards and two touchdowns with his legs. While his rookie campaign may have only lasted seven games due to injury, he has established himself as one of the most promising quarterbacks in the league.

Watson's arrival finally provides O'Brien with the stability under center he has been looking for ever since his tenure with Houston started. It is clear that he is looking forward to getting back to the postseason with a legitimate quarterback in his repertoire.
