Houston Texans star defensive tackle J.J. Watt is far from happy.

Watt said Wednesday he has not done enough to help the Texans win more games, but also noted individual numbers would mean absolutely nothing given the team's 2-7 start.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year was asked about his performance, and responded in blunt fashion:

“Not good enough, we're 2-7. I could have 100 sacks,” Watt said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I need more tackles for losses, more sacks, more quarterback hits. I'm not playing well enough. Our team isn't playing well enough. That's why we're 2-7.”

Watt has always demanded more of himself and his teammates, and with good reason.

The 31-year-old is usually one of the most singularly impactful players in football when healthy. But just as the Texans have struggled, so too has their marquee defensive player.

Watt has just four sacks, six tackles for a loss and eight quarterback hits through Houston's first nine games. These are still respectable numbers, but hardly the kind of production Texans fans are used to seeing from Watt.

Just two years ago, Watt had 16 sacks, 18 tackles for a loss, 25 quarterback hits and seven forced fumbles en route to being named All-Pro First Team for the fifth time in his career. However, the last two years have only provided frustration.

Watt dealt with injuries in 2019, playing just eight games in the regular season before returning for the playoffs. This season brought about an internal clash with former head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien.

The Texans are all but out of the playoff race. But the ever-prideful Watt is still striving for better performances.
