Houston Texans safety Justin Reid took to social media to announce that he will undergo wrist surgery to repair injuries that he sustained during his rookie campaign.

Reid had a very impressive first season in the NFL, finishing with 88 tackles, three interceptions, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries, 10 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Stanford University, was originally selected by the Texans in the third round (68th pick overall) of the NFL Draft last spring.

He played three seasons at Stanford, capping his collegiate tenure by totaling 54 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack, five interceptions, a fumble recovery and six passes defended during his junior campaign.

Reid arrived at Stanford in 2016, playing in nine games and recording 14 tackles and an interception in a limited role.

The following year, Reid received a bigger opportunity, taking the field for 13 contests and registering 36 stops, four tackles for loss and seven passes defended.

The Texans won 11 games and captured the AFC South division title this season, rebounding from an 0-3 start by reeling off nine straight wins. However, Houston struggled over the final four weeks of the regular season, going just 2-2.

Those struggles then carried over into the playoffs, as the Texans fell to the division-rival Indianapolis Colts by a score of 21-7 in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

Since Houston became an NFL franchise in 2002, it has made the playoffs just four times and has never made it past the Divisional Round. The Texans have, however, won the AFC South three of the last four years.
