Last month, the Houston Texans placed the franchise tag on linebacker Jadeveon Clowney with the hopes of getting him signed to a long-term deal at some point during the offseason.

However, according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle, the two sides have not made much progress, and a deal is not expected to be reached anytime soon.

If the Texans can't come to an agreement with Clowney, he is likely to skip the team's offseason conditioning program and will not participate in organized team activities, which hardly comes as a surprise.

Clowney is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 15 games and registered 47 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown en route to his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by Houston with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He appeared in just four contests during his rookie year due to a knee injury, and the following year, Clowney was disappointing, finishing with just 40 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and six passes defended.

Clowney then began to show signs of breaking out in his third year, totaling 52 tackles, six sacks, and a forced fumble, making the Pro Bowl as a result. Then, in 2017, the Rock Hill, S.C. native racked up 59 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a defensive score, earning another trip to the Pro Bowl.

The Texans won 11 games and captured the AFC South division title this past season but lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
