The card industry has now reached a point where a single slab can pay off any residential property mortgage. Case in point, this graded baseball card of legend, Honus Wagner.

In a recent auction held by Goldin Auctions, a PSA 2 T206 card of Wagner fetched $3.75 million dollars, placing it fifth in a list of the most expensive cards in the world. It also surpassed the $3.25 million achieved by a similar card with a grade of PSA 3 during a private transaction last year.

While a lot of vintage cards have surfaced over the past year or so, this particular Wagner card is definitely one of the most sought-after items in the world of baseball. For one, an estimated 200 or fewer copies were produced, with only around 50 of them graded and slabbed. This makes Wagner’s T206 offering the holy grail for dedicated baseball card collectors.

The man in question, Honus Wagner, also holds a special place in the hearts of avid baseball enthusiasts. His unique skill set allowed the 1936 National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee to accurately play any position during his time.

Wagner is considered to be one of the top hitters to have ever lived, with eight National League batting titles awarded to him. In 1909, he led the Pittsburgh Pirates to a World Series title, further cementing him as one of baseball’s greats.

Goldin Auctions continues its impressive run of auctioning record-breaking items, with this Wagner card adding another feather to their long list of accomplishments in the industry.
