Remember Alex Abrines? Apparently the Thunder finally do, too.

Oklahoma City drafted the Spanish guard with the 32nd pick of the 2013 NBA Draft. Now, it’s being reported they’ve offered the 22-year-old a three-year, $18 million contract. Good value, this summer.

The buyout to pry Abrines from Barcelona, where he is under contract through 2019, is rumored to be around $2 million, but the Thunder can only contribute up to $650,000 of that with the rest having to be paid by Abrines himself.

That shouldn’t be a problem for Abrines, who doesn’t have to deal with the typical rookie salary scale since he waited a few years to come over. He starts out on a nice salary that he wouldn’t normally.

Abrines’ delayed NBA debut is partly because the Thunder simply haven’t had a need for him since drafting him. The roster has been pretty full with guys who can contribute.

Of course, a certain Kevin Durant leaving has opened many doors in OKC, including one for Abrines.

The Thunder acquired Victor Oladipo this summer and he looks like he should now be the team’s starting two-guard. The Thunder also have Andre Roberson, Anthony Morrow and Kyle Singler on the roster. Dion Waiters’ future is still up in the air, but it’s looking more and more likely he returns to OKC.

That’s some decent wing depth, but there’s definitely an opportunity for Abrines to jump in the rotation if he can prove himself.
