He may not be in contention for this season's Rookie of the Year award but there is no doubt that Josh Giddey had a tremendous debut campaign with the Oklahoma City Thunder this season.

Giddey has been out of action for more than a month now due to a lingering hip injury and as it turns out, the Thunder have decided to shut him down for the remainder of the season (h/t Bleacher Report on Twitter):

This actually does not come as a complete shock considering how this is the Thunder we are talking about here. The rebuild is in full swing in OKC and they have been rather consistent about having their best players sit out for suspiciously extended periods throughout the season. Giddey is the latest victim of the Thunder on full tank mode and we will have to wait until next season before we see this kid take the court again.

In 54 starts this season, OKC's sixth overall pick averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists in 31.5 minutes per game. The Thunder currently possess a 21-52 record and are in contention for the worst record in the NBA. This team is definitely going to get another high lottery pick in the upcoming draft.
