The regular season is only hours away from an end, and Russell Westbrook is yet again chasing history, only 16 rebounds away from a second straight triple-double season.
While 16 rebounds seems like a daunting tally for a point guard, the reigning MVP is no ordinary one, and isn't ashamed to chase after boards, despite what people may think of his stat-padding.
“A lot of people make jokes about stat-padding or going to get rebounds, but if people could go get 20 rebounds every night, they would,” said Westbrook. “I take pride in what I do, come out an play and get the ball faster than somebody else gets to it. That's just what it is.”
“If you don't want it, I'm gonna get it. Simple as that.”

To Westbrook's defense, no other guard is pulling down nearly two offensive rebounds per game, and even if he's aided by box-out king Steven Adams for a lot of those defensive rebounds — it's his willingness to stay engaged enough to track them down and run the break each and every time that has made him such a stellar player.
Regardless of the outcome, most fans will keep their eyes peeled to see if Westbrook is able to pull down every rebound needed to merit another triple-double season — making him the first to ever average a triple-double in consecutive seasons.

Westbrook is fresh off a season-high 18 rebounds against the Miami Heat on Monday — definitely not a coincidence with only a game left to reach the mark.
