The Oklahoma City Thunder have gone through a massive overhaul in the last couple of weeks, losing both Paul George and Russell Westbrook in surprising trades. With the team now looking at a rebuilding situation, the Thunder will lean on the players they already have to help them, and thankfully, one key contributor should be ready to go by next season.

According to Thunder general Manager Sam Presti (via The Athletic’s Brett Dawson), Andre Roberson is healing properly, and should be “on track” for the beginning of the season. Roberson quickly became a key player for the Thunder over the last couple of years thanks to his elite defensive presence.

Thankfully for Roberson and the Thunder, however, Presti said that he’s seeing some videos of Roberson, and is impressed by the clips. Although Roberson isn’t the scorer that the Thunder could use, his skills are more than enough to help the team in other ways, so long as he’s able to stay effective when he finally returns to the floor.

Although Roberson will be a great player for the Thunder to get back, he unfortunately hasn’t played since January 2018 thanks to a torn patellar tendon and other complications. In October of last year, he had another procedure in order to attempt to alleviate irritation from a suture in his left knee, and then needed yet another surgery in November to fix an avulsion fracture in that same knee.

Needless to say, the effectiveness of Roberson will be in question when he comes back, and given how much help the Thunder need, they’ll likely play it safe once he does. If he can return to form, however, Roberson would be a solid addition to a Thunder team that is now looking for more veteran help.
