The Tennessee Titans brought Adrian Peterson aboard in hopes he could provide cover for the injured Derrick Henry. It seems that the experiment has come to a close, however. NFL insider Mike Garafolo reports that the Titans have waived the veteran running back, who spent just three games with the team.

Peterson rushed the ball 27 times across his three games in a Titans uniform. He recorded 82 yards and one touchdown on the season. In Week 11's loss against the Texans, Peterson rushed nine times for 40 yards.

The 36-year-old will head to waivers, though it's unclear if any team is interested in bringing him on at this juncture. As for the Titans, running back Dontrell Hilliard will likely take over the starting role while Henry continues to recover. Last week, Hilliard picked up 82 scrimmage yards, hauling in eight receptions for 47 yards and rushing seven times for 35 yards.

It was awesome to see AP get another chance in the league, and even better to see him find the end zone in his return to the field. Unfortunately, the Titans felt that Hilliard was the better option going forward, and quite frankly they may be right. Hilliard showcased his ability as a pass-catcher on Sunday and it clearly proved to be enough to stick around.

Peterson shouldn't hang his head low. The veteran shocked everyone by coming back for one last go in the league. Playing running back at any age is extremely impressive. He did it at 36 and scored a touchdown, bringing his career tally up to 119.
