Minnesota Twins 2017 first overall pick Royce Lewis has had a relatively slow development in the minor leagues. At the same time, he is still just 22-years old. And he displayed every bit of his potential in the Twins victory over the Guardians on Friday night.

Lewis not only hit his first career home run on Friday, but he did it in grand slam fashion in the 5th inning off of Cleveland reliever Bryan Shaw.

The young infielder commented on the majestic blast after the game.

“I think it was pretty much everything I could have imagined and more, you know? This whole debut, playing with these guys has just been truly special. … Everything that's been happening has been truly special beyond belief.”

Royce Lewis has been crucial to the Twins success as of late especially with Carlos Correa's injury concerns. It isn't clear where he will fit in once Correa returns. However, it will be difficult for Minnesota to justify sending him back to the minors if he keeps playing like this.

Correa was apparently one of the most excited Twins players following Lewis's grand slam.

“[Correa was] maybe more [excited] than me,” Lewis stated. “I was definitely fired up, though. It's really cool. … I think they all were really elated for me, and I just had so much fun just celebrating with my teammates who I really love and care about, on and off the field.”

Royce Lewis and the Twins will aim to keep playing well on Saturday against Cleveland.
