Ty Lawson believes that a team will eventually get him for a price cheaper than what he believes he is worth. For an indication of what Ty Lawson may still be able to do, look no further than his days with the Denver Nuggets. While he had a down year, Ty Lawson may still be capable starting in the NBA.

Lawson started the season with the Rockets before being released. He was then picked up by the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 5.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, along with 3.6 assists.

Along with his low numbers, Lawson believes another factor is impacting the attention he has received in free agency. In an interview with Marc Spears of ESPN, Lawson had this to say:

Q: Do you feel like you’re a sleeper free agent?

A: I think so. At this point, I am not going to say they are going to get me for cheap. But they’re going to get me for cheaper than I feel I’m worth … I feel like I’m overlooked in free agency.

Q: What do you say to prospective teams when they ask you about your alcohol problems?

A: Things happened in the media because I drank and drove. But I’m not a person out here like everyone thinks that I’m drunk all day. No, I don’t do that. A lot of my friends, we go out and celebrate. But I’m not that person in the morning getting drunk before practice. I think there is a big misconception about what everybody thinks. That’s what I basically tell them. I keep it honest.

Q: Did you purposely refrain from doing certain things or going to certain places?

A: Not really. I wouldn’t be out late at night or anything like that. That would give people any type of excuse. I pretty much did the same things I always do. The times I got in trouble, I was caught drinking and driving. I don’t drive anymore or do anything irresponsible. Mostly, I’ve been just staying in and staying out of the spotlight.

On and off the court problems have gotten in the way of Ty Lawson and his career the past few years. DUIs are a serious matter; it's a dangerous subject, and it seems as if he knows that now. It would be a pretty good story to see a Ty Lawson comeback, wherever it may be.
