Tyler Toffoli was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Calgary Flames in a blockbuster deal on Monday. On Tuesday, Toffoli made his debut with his new team and did not disappoint.

Midway through the third period with the Flames already leading 5-2, Johnny Gaudreau flipped a pass blue line to blue line sky high. It landed perfectly on Toffoli's stick. Toffoli used his momentum to get behind the defense and beat Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins with his backhand.

What made the play so outstanding was that when “Johnny Hockey” flipped the pass in the air, Toffoli was still on his goal's side of the two defenseman. It was a gorgeous play. The Flames went on to win 6-2.

Toffoli finished the game with four shots, one hit and that goal. He logged just over 12 minutes of ice time over 18 shifts for Calgary.

With the win, the Flames leap-frogged the Las Vegas Golden Knights atop the Pacific Division with 60 points.

Calgary made the big splash, landing Toffoli, but it came with a big price tag. The Flames shipped a top-10 protected first round pick in the upcoming NHL Draft, along with a fifth round pick in 2024, Tyler Pitlick and Emil Heineman.

Toffoli helped the Los Angeles Kings win the 2014 Stanley Cup and should add scoring depth to a team lacking it. Calgary is looking to become the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup since Montreal did it in 1993.
