NFTs have been quite a controversial topic for some time, as many gamers out there feel that they are nothing more than a lure for digital scams.  Game developers, publishers, and many creators, however,  still seem to believe that there will be a future for them. One gaming publisher, in particular, is Ubisoft, which is very well known for its venture into the world of gaming NFTs through their Ubisoft Quartz initiative, a system to employ NFT items in their games, which started with Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. While the public reception for the service was met with heavy criticism, Ubisoft is surprisingly unswayed by the backlash.

In a statement made over on the official Ubisoft Quartz purchase page for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the following note could be viewed on the page, stating:

“Thank you to all Ghost Recon® Breakpoint players who claimed their first Digits! You own a piece of the game and have left your mark in its history. As the last Digit for Ghost Recon® Breakpoint was released on 3/17/2022, stay tuned for more updates with features to the platform and future drops coming with other games!”

While it has not been confirmed what games Ubisoft will be implementing Ubisoft Quartz into, it is very easy to consider the possibilities with many of their games featuring digital inventories and equipment, such as Rainbow Six Siege, Riders Republic, For Honor, or their upcoming free-to-play shooter, XDefiant.

As most of the gaming public has made up their minds regarding NFTs, many others are still on the fence regarding them and what kind of benefits they could bring to the gaming space, if at all. Despite popular belief, there is a potential benefit to NFTS, in the form of transferring digital items between different games, but game developers and publishers have yet to jump on this opportunity, for various reasons.
