Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was arrested on Monday night over an attempted murder charge.

The Mexican fighter was said to have spent the night in jail and appears to still be in custody of the authorities, according to a report from TMZ.

Cain Velasquez was one of the most feared fighters to ever grace the heavyweight class. His defeat of Brock Lesnar to take away the heavyweight title for the first time remains an iconic UFC showing. So was his three-part title series against Junior Dos Santos to assert his dominance in the weight class.

His last UFC match was a crushing KO at the hands of current heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou back in 2019. Cain Velasquez hasn't fought since.

Cain Velasquez is set for his court date scheduled on Wednesday. We'll have more on this news once further details emerge.
