Why Valentin Moldavsky Will Win

Valentin Moldavsky, the protege of one of the greatest heavyweights ever Fedor Emelianenko, was once considered the best heavyweight prospect in Bellator. He even captured the interim heavyweight title after defeating Tim Johnson back at Bellator 261. Moldavsky then met his match when he faced off with Ryan Bader for the undisputed heavyweight title who out-grappled him for 25 minutes. Since losing his chance at Bellator gold, Moldavsky has won two of his next four fights with a loss to this week's opponent Linton Vassell. Moldavsky will be looking to avenge only the third loss of his career when he takes on Linton Vassell this Thursday night at PFL 4.

Moldvasky is not one of the bigger heavyweights on the PFL's roster but he makes up for it with his technical acumen. His ability to use his movement in and out of his strikes with his devastating power makes him a tough fight for any heavyweight in this year's PFL tournament. However, going against the bigger man in Vassell who was able to get Moldavsky down to the mat he will need to keep his distance to keep this trilogy fight on his feet. As long as Moldavsky can make Vassell work, defend the takedowns, and punish him on the feet we can expect another finish as Moldavsky punches his ticket to the PFL playoffs.

Why Linton Vassell Will Win

Linton Vassell is a longtime Bellator heavyweight will now turn his attention to becoming a PFL heavyweight champion after not being able to accomplish the mission of becoming the Bellator heavyweight champion before the sale. Vassell was on a five-fight winning streak which included a win over the aforementioned Valentin Moldavsky coming into his PFL debut. However, after a strong start for the UK native, he faded mightily down the stretch as Denis Goltsov took over and got the third-round TKO finish. Vassell will be looking to finish Moldavsky this time and get in the PFL playoffs when they go to battle this Thursday night.

Vassell is a very large man standing at 6'4″ with an 80.5″ reach which gives him a 3″ height and a 5.5″ reach advantage. While he is a good striker at range over time he has adapted his game and become a dominant grappler with four of his last five wins coming by dominant TKO ground-and-pound finishes. In their first encounter, he utilized his grappling to its fullest extent neutralizing the striking of Moldavsky. Vassell will need to do more of the same but must get a finish if he wants to keep his PFL playoff hopes alive.

Final Valentin Moldavsky-Linton Vassell Prediction & Pick

This should be a good trilogy fight between these two PFL heavyweight contenders. Expect this to be a more closely contested matchup than it was in their first encounter and Moldavsky making the right adjustments this time around to keep this fight on his feet. From there he should be able to utilize his speed to keep this fight at range to outwork Vassell over the course of this fight to take the decision and secure his spot in the PFL playoffs.
