Barring any massive collapse paired with a win-surge from the Detroit Pistons, the Milwaukee Bucks are headed into the postseason this year. That said, they failed to reduce their magic number when they suffered a gut-wrenching 128-125 overtime road loss on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.

The Bucks actually looked as though they were headed to a win, as they had a 17-point lead with under seven minutes remaining the fourth period. However, they allowed Denver to get back in the game no thanks to some shoddy defensive plays and an offense that seemed to have died in the middle of the last quarter. The fact that Giannis Antetokounmpo fouled out of the ballgame with only around four minutes left on the game clock only made it harder for the Bucks to stave off Denver’s resurgence. Worse, Antetokounmpo was ejected out of the court after going off at a referee.

Giannis Antetokounmpo obviously did not like that he was assessed an offensive foul while trying to score in the paint against Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. Antetokounmpo was trying to carve out space to get off a shot but did so illegally by pushing Jokic away. Whether Jokic added some extra mustard on that play to get the referees’ attention, Antetokounmpo had zero reasons to exploded like that on a game official.

Antetokounmpo left the game with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds along with six assists in 33 minutes of action.

Antetokounmpo and the Bucks will try to pick themselves up this Tuesday, when they host the streaking Boston Celtics.
